Welcome Back Boat Cruise says aloha to new school year

On Friday, Sept. 19, the Welcome Back Hawaiian Boat Cruise kicked off with leis for the guys and hair flowers for the ladies upon boarding. MATC Student Government organized the night on the water through the Milwaukee Boat Line’s Voyageur.
The annual celebration provided an elegant view of Lake Michigan with the option of two different two-hour cruises. Raffle tickets supplied lucky passengers a chance to win memorable prizes to enhance an enjoyable trip filled with dancing, dining and a beautiful view of the Milwaukee shoreline.
The watercraft party, complete with a dry bartender and DJ, originated a little over 30 years ago at the West Allis campus by Student Government with sailing on the Iroquois Boat to start the semester.  Later on Oak Creek campus joined in, and before long the event became such a popular request that the other campuses joined in.
“I hope the students are having fun,”  Cathy Lechmaier, Student Life coordinator, said.  “Maybe this is a good opportunity for them to find out that you can have fun without alcohol.”
