Yelawolf performs live at Turner Hall in Milwaukee, Dec. 2.

On Dec. 2, Milwaukee was blessed to have Yelawolf perform at the Pabst Theater. Yelawolf is a rapper from Alabama who came here on tour for his album “Love Story.” The concert had an opening act, then another performer, Ritz, who performed before Yelawolf. The good thing about the performers before the concert was that they got the audience pumped. They would get the audience chanting and dancing and just really excited to see Yelawolf. Another nice thing about this was the fact that they had 10-minute breaks in-between the performers. This was not only to set up but to give a small break to the audience so they could refill on drinks, use the bathroom, get some merchandise, or even just get some fresh air.
When the audience saw a small shadow in the background, they chanted his name over and over again until Yelawolf’s DJ and guitarist came on stage rocking. It was a unique move to have them come on stage to make a grand entry. They played a couple of minutes before he started to sing into the microphone and finally came on stage. That small wait made people go crazy when they finally saw him.
Yelawolf not only got the audience pumped by dancing around the stage and encouraging the audience to sing, clap and jump but he also had the different song melodies from famous artists when he rapped. He had “Back in Black” from AC/DC, “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and, last but not least, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. This also made sense later when he told the audience that he was heavily inspired by alternative rock.
This was Yelawolf’s first time in Milwaukee and he seemed to enjoy it. He sprayed the audience with water, chugged whatever he had on stage and told the audience that he loved them all and that they meant a lot to him. He also talked to people one on one in the front of the audience. That was pretty cool how he would bend down and actually just hold conversations with people, even if you couldn’t really hear the audience, you could hear his answers. It was his way of doing a question and answer.
Yelawolf is a rapper that mixed different genres of music in his songs. Everything he did was unique, and his music was very catchy and really good. If you haven’t heard of him, look him up and listen to some of his songs. I guarantee that you will like it
