MESO provides resources to Vets

On Sept. 16 at the MATC Downtown Milwaukee campus cafeteria, the Military Education Support Office (MESO) held the Fall 2015 Connection Reception. Donna Shepard, chief of staff for state senator Lena Taylor, greeted the student veterans and expressed to them to use the benefits they have earned.

Military Education Support Office (MESO) held the Fall 2015 Connection Reception at the Downtown Milwaukee campus on Sept. 16.

The purpose of the presentation was to connect the student veteran with the many resources MESO and MATC has to offer to be successful academically.

First taking the podium was Ben Baerbock, Student Services specialist for MESO. He welcomed the attending students and spoke about eligibility of state and federal benefits. Secondly Maria Rath, Student Services specialist, spoke about the advising and counseling services MESO can provide the student veteran.

Rhonda Cotton, educational assistant, advised the audience on the tutoring services that are also available to them.

Next speaking was Catherine Bohte, coordinator/instructor, who talked about the student accommodation services.

Special guest Donna Shepard, chief of staff for state senator Lena Taylor, thanked everyone for their service to the country, and talked about the importance of taking advantage of the earned benefits veterans have. Camille Nicolai, director of Admissions and Student Financial and Employment Services, explained aspects of financial aid, grants and loans.

Next up was Katherine Rozanski, student employment specialist, who spoke about how MATC’s JOBshop assists students, graduates and employers with employment needs and to provide career information resources.
