Stormers roll over Wolfpack

One of the featured games in the third annual Play4Kay basketball fundraiser on Feb. 13, was the matchup between the Milwaukee Stormers and the Madison Wolfpack.

The Stormers came into the game with a 21W-6L record and the Madison Wolfpack with a record of 10W-16L.  The Stormers came out and set the pace of this game with a early first half alley-oop to Thomas Hood.

MATC out-matched Madison in every aspect of this game. During the first half MATC was able to hold the Wolfpack to under 45 percent shooting(13-30) from the field, while they were extremely effective shooting the ball, going 60 percent from the field (16-27) and 58 percent from beyond the 3-point arch (7-12).

Going into halftime, the Wolfpack’s leading scorer was Ethan Lurquin with 16 points.  For the Stormers, Austin Dunbar and Derrick Cook both put up 14 points, giving MATC a 55-42 point lead at halftime.

Stormers offense struggled throughout the second half, shooting less than 50 percent from the field (13-28) and 0 percent from 3-point (0-9).  Luckily their defense was able to stay strong and protect their lead. The Wolfpack shot very poor from the field shooting less than 40 percent from both inside and outside the 3-point line.

The star that shined the brightest for MATC this game was Dunbar who finished with a stat line of 28 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.  Dunbar attributed much of his success to his ability to stay focused and help from his teammates.

The Stormers easily rolled over the Wolfpack, defeating them 89-68 and improving their record to 22W-6L. The Stormers kept their place of having one of the top 10 records in NJCAA DIII men’s basketball, according to the latest poll.
