Free tax preparation assistance available

 

Dear Student Legal Clinic,

I am a MATC work study student. I am considering filing my income taxes this year. What are the requirements and items I need to present and where can I go?

Dear Michael,

MATC is offering free tax preparation assistance at our Downtown Milwaukee and Oak Creek locations. Listed below are the items you’ll need:

 

• Wage and Earnings Statements (W-2 forms)

• Bank Interest Statements (1099 forms)

• Copy of 2012 income tax returns

• Photo ID

• Receipts for property taxes paid

• Certificate for rent paid signed by landlord

• Social Security card (i.e. you, spouse, dependents)

• Social Security number or Tax ID number for child care      providers

• Proof of additional income and expenses

• Current bank routing and account number (blank void/cancelled check)

 

NOTE: Taxpayers filing joint returns must be present together to sign documents.

 

Downtown Milwaukee Campus

Tax help will be offered January 26 through April 13

(Closed March 30 and April 2)

Tuesdays from 6 – 8 p.m.

Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

 

The first 20 clients will receive assistance Tuesdays, and the first 35 clients will  be served on Saturdays. Clients are to arrive at least 30 minutes before the session begins.

You can visit the VITA office, located in the Welcome Center on the first floor of the Student Center, 700 W. State Street.

 

Oak Creek Campus

Tax help will be offered February 2 through April 13

Wednesdays from 4 – 7 p.m.

Saturdays from 9 a.m. – noon.

 

Report to the Atrium on the lower level of the A Building, next to the cafeteria.
