Dear Student Legal Clinic,
I was on unemployment and now I have no income except financial aid. I would like to get some help from foodshare, but I was told that students need to work 20 hours per week in order to qualify. I have been searching for a job, but no luck.
Signed Sylvia
Dear Sylvia,
There was a change in the foodshare rules affecting technical college students. If you are in a program that will last less than two years and is expected to result in employment, you are eligible to receive foodshare while you are going to school.
You should apply online at http://access.wisconsin.gov
Use your school schedule with your name on it to prove that you are a student in a technical program.
If you receive foodshare, you may also enroll in the PACE program here at MATC. This allows you to receive childcare and the UPASS while you are in school. You can find out more about PACE at 297-8239.
For more information on foodshare, call Mary O’Leary at
297-6630 or email [email protected], or stop in Room M326.
