Milwaukee Area Technical College hosted Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and consortium partners (earlier this week) to highlight Wisconsin’s selection as one of 12 regional tech hubs across the country and receipt of $49 million in federal funding to boost the state’s personalized medicine and biohealth sectors. About 50 people and a bevy of media attended the press conference, which was held in the STEM Educational Center at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus.
Consortium partners Madison College, Universities of Wisconsin, the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin and Employ Milwaukee participated in the event. The original announcement was made on July 2. MATC was selected to host this press conference and tour to further highlight the project.
Gov. Evers, Sen. Baldwin and other attendees toured a microbiology class, led by faculty member Ed Kerschen, where students shared organisms and diagnostic testing of bacteria as such functions are performed in hospitals.
