A couple hundred people gathered on the lawn of Cathedral Square Park in Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon to participate in a “No Kings” protest. The nationwide event had protestors gathered during a military parade in Washington D.C. that marked the Army’s 250th anniversary. It also was President Trump’s birthday.
The protest was meant to show opposition to what organizers said were Trump’s plans to feed his ego on his 79th birthday and Flag Day. According to the Army, planning has been in the works for almost two years to commemorate the Army’s 250th anniversary. On June 14, 1775 the Second Continental Congress voted to create the Continental Army as a united colonial response to fight British troops.
The last time a military parade took place in Washington D.C. was in 1991. That event marked the end of the Gulf War.
