Most students look forward to a lazy summer, near the pool soaking up the sun.
While many students were applying SPF 20 we were hard at work applying web 2.0.
This summer the MATC Times website has made some major upgrades.
This is far from a simple change of visual aesthetics, the overhaul includes a complete re-vision of the entire site from the ground up.
What are some of the new features of the site?
• “Like” an article
Our site has enabled users who have a Facebook account to “Like” us. We are proud of the articles that we publish and we want to share them with everyone, not just those who have access to a physical copy of our paper.
Although we are far from being able to condense our articles to 140 characters, we are able to allow users with a twitter account to share any story they like via twitter.
• Share button
If you don’t have a Facebook or Twitter account and want to share an article don’t worry. We have more than 341 ways to share stories. These include Email, Google Buzz, Delicious, and even Myspace.
• Photo slideshow
One of the problems with the printed page is space. MATC has many gifted photographers (and not just in the Times Office) and there never seems to be enough space to share all the best photos. If you missed an event on or off campus be sure to check online for full photo coverage.
• Trending stories
We have created “Most Popular” and “Growing Interest” categories located on the main page. It’s a great way to gauge students attention of important issues or even a place to find reviews of new movies or games.
• Wanna be eco-friendly?
Wanna save a tree? On the main page you can download the latest issue as a PDF document.
• Just the start
We have many upgrades to run and how to implement even more technology.
If you have any features you would like to see contact us or stop by the office.
It’s our goal to make our site easily accessible, design savvy and most importantly brimming with the work of students.
We hope that all the new technology that is implemented onto our site is to serve one goal, to amplify the student voice. So please visit the address, it is still the same: www.matctimes.com.
Read, comment, share or contribute while our web team makes their best attempt to catch a glimpse of the summer sun.
