As of October 4th, parking will change for downtown students. The change will apply to the 8th and State, and the 6th and Wells structures; students will now need three things to exit these parking structures. First, they’ll need their parking permit, which can be purchased at the cashier’s office. Prices are $30 for the school year and $20 for the semester. The second item would be the Stormers pass (ID), but you have to be registered for the current semester to park for the discounted price.
The third thing would be campus cash on your card. This will allow you to exit the parking structures for $1.50. You can put money on your card at the little black boxes (Account Managing Centers) located on the 1st and 3rd floors of the S building, in the C building by 8th and Highland exit, 2nd floor of the M building across from public safety, 3rd floor of the H and T building bridge, and three more locations are to be added by January of 2011.
If a student is missing any of these 3 three things they will be charged the hourly rate.
As Archie Graham, Director of Student Life states, “They would be able to drive into 8th and State parking, pull out a parking ticket and park. When they leave, put a parking ticket into the machine, the machine would tell them they’d have to pay so much money. They would swipe their Stormer Pass (ID) card and the machine will check to see if they’re a registered student and if they purchased a parking pass, and then it would only charge $1.50 all with one swipe.”
While parking changes for those two structures, the Bradley Center structure will continue to take stamps, which are also able to be purchased at the cashier’s office for an extra $15 dollars per booklet.
One other key tool for traveling to the campus is the MATC shuttle van. The van is designed for those who do not wish to or could not walk the extra blocks to get to school.
The routes for the shuttle van are to and from the 6th and Wells streets parking lot, and the reserved lot on the 6th and State Streets. Oftentimes, the van runs in fifteen to twenty minute intervals.
