Like New Orleans Saints fans at the Super Bowl and movie buffs on Oscar night, you’ll be asking “Who dat?” at the 2010 Green Energy Summit.A galaxy of energy stars will shine at the Midwest Airlines Center (between Wells St. and Wisconsin Ave. from 6th to 4th Sts.) Wednesday through Friday, March 24, 25 and 26, to help illuminate your pathway into the future. The theme of the 2010 Summit is The New Green Economy – Opportunities and Challenges.
Note: Summit registration is free for all students (http://green
energysummit.us/).
Probably best known to the public is movie and TV actor Ed Begley, Jr. A passionate environmental and green-energy advocate, Begley is the author of Living Like Ed: A Guide to the Eco-Friendly Life. He currently stars in a reality show about green living called Living With Ed. Ed will be a keynote speaker at the Summit’s lunchtime session on Thursday, March 25, and will appear at the Enviro Energies booth in the Summit Exhibit Hall Thursday to discuss green energy (and sign autographs).
On the same Thursday lunchtime program with Ed will be Don Albinger, Vice President for Renewable Energy at Johnson Controls, the largest corporation in Wisconsin, and Professor C. S Kiang, Founding Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences at Beijing University and Chairman of the Sustainable Development Technology Foundation.
“US China Cooperation on the Low Carbon City” will be Kiang’s compelling subject at the Summit. Don’t miss this extraordinary session.
Recently returned from the international conference on climate change in Copenhagen, Denmark, famed polar explorer Will Steger will keynote the Summit’s second plenary session Wednesday morning, March 24. Steger’s passion for planet Earth is legendary. Will Steger has been awarded the National Geographic Society’s La Gorce Medal for “accomplishments in geographic exploration, in the sciences and for public service to advance international understanding.” Come to the Summit and meet Will Steger.
As Will Steger roamed the polar regions, so Lonnie Thompson explored the highest mountains on Earth. A celebrated researcher from Ohio State University, Dr. Thompson knows firsthand the glaciers of Alaska, the Andes, Kilimanjaro and the immense Himalaya.
Like Dr. James Hansen who spoke at last year’s Summit, Thompson is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
He will keynote the Summit’s opening session on Thursday morning, March 25; Our Carbon Footprint: Why We Must Reduce It.
Begley, Kiang, Steger and Thompson are just four of many energy stars who will come to the Summit to meet you.
