Most people know that the Student Senate exists, but not a lot of people know what they do. “They advocate for the students,” Chris Clark, Treasurer of Oak Creek Campus Senate, said. According to Clark, the student senates put on events as well as listen to student issues. Clark stated that within their limits, they try to help solve a variety of issues students may face.
There are qualifications that the students must have in order to become a part of the Student Senate. The qualifications include: being a current student in good academic standing and maintaining a minimum 2.0 grade-point average.
According to Archie Graham, the Director of Student Life, “There is no competition” in the student senate election, so just about anyone could become a part of the student senate with at least 25 signatures from current students. After the 25 signatures get verified, then the nominees get put on the ballot. With two votes, the nominees get in the student senate.
