Times Senior EditorIt’s the start of the spring semester and with it comes many familiar scents: the inky odor of new textbooks, the ever present smell of chalk, and – for those lucky enough to be on the sixth floor of the M Building – the aroma of Sautéed Filet of Black Fish with Plantain Chips, and Exotic Mushroom Soup.
This, of course, means that Cuisine Dining has opened its doors again. Located at MATC’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus, on the sixth floor of the M Building, Cuisine is the student-operated restaurant of the Culinary Arts Department. Professional Chef and Instructor John Reiss oversees the kitchen operation and heads the restaurant, but it is MATC’s fine Culinary Arts students who bring life to the restaurant.
Cuisine Dining features many wonderful, and often exotic, dishes. Though the menu changes often, it is not uncommon to see dishes such as Thai Chopped Salad with Grilled Norwegian Salmon, or Spring Roll of Shiitake Mushrooms and Bay Lobster. For the less adventurous, the restaurant also offers classics like Pan-seared Breast of Chicken, or a Wisconsin Artisan Cheese Plate.
While the prices vary by dish, one can expect to pay $3 to $6 for appetizers, and a very reasonable $10 to $15 for main courses.
Cuisine Dining, located in Room M628, is open from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Seating is limited and fills up quickly so reservations are a good idea. Reservations may be made by calling:
