This year’s 40th Annual NIEA (National Indian Education Association) convention was held last month at the Midwest Airlines Convention Center. This year’s convention allowed students to gather information on Native American educational information, language studies, benefits and job markets throughout the U.S. Individual workshops, and an exhibit hall provided a large amount of Native American information on current issues. Other related events included the “Hunting Moon” Pow Wow held at Potawatomi Casino and rock star Micki Free at the convention center. NIEA members voted on current educational issues as well as Native American controversial mascot issues. The convention had several students, advisers and faculty assisting at the convention.
