On Friday, October 29, at the Irish Cultural Community Center, the Halloween Thriller! Event commenced at 8 p.m. It was sponsored by West Campus Student Government, for students to celebrate Halloween.Open to students of all four MATC campuses and their guests, the event included dancing, music by a deejay, and an area where classic black and white horror movies such as the original Frankenstein were shown. Food was served and a cash bar was available for those of legal drinking age. Pictures were also taken at no charge. For those students curious to know their future, several palm readers were available in the basement for readings. Numerous contests, including a screaming contest, also took place.
Some students were grateful for the opportunity to mingle amongst students from not only their campus but from the others as well.
“I got to actually meet other people from other groups and see what they do and just say hi, made a few new friends,” student Justin Popp stated.
The many different activities at the Halloween Thriller! were a major source of what made the event unique. “My favorite part of the evening was the variety,” Scott Dennis, Vice President of West Campus Student Government and event organizer stated; “if you didn’t want to dance there was a movie theater downstairs, if you didn’t care for the movie theater, you could see the astrologer in the basement. If you didn’t like that you could join your friends at the bar in the dining area. There was something for everyone.”
His chosen costume for the evening was a black and white demented circus ring leader.
Tickets were $10 per person in advance and $15 per person at the door.
