Eddie Perez, President of the Latino Student Organization (LSO), joined the LSO last semester. He stated at one of his board meetings that his mission “is to diversify everything, not just have it Latino’s, Blacks and Asians all separated.”I don’t want that. There’s enough of that in our city; we don’t need that in our schools, too. University, diversity and collaboration are going to be key here.”
The LSO has an array of goals that its members are striving to attain in order to better support students.
Not only are they working to promote unification, according to Pam Morales, public relations for the LSO. “We’re going to be working with the arts and the community a lot (in the coming semester).”
Christian Guerreo, member of the LSO, adds that another goal of the organization is to promote academic excellence, lead by example and “to educate the culture here at MATC.”
They want every student to know that they are open to everyone.
To join the LSO just stop in their office in Room M332, Monday through Thursday any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to fill out a respect and conduct form.
