On November 11, at 11:00 a.m., Veterans Day will be marked at West Campus with a lecture given by Tom Gould, Vietnam War veteran and past adviser for the MATC Times, in the West Campus cafeteria. The event was sponsored the West Campus Student Government and is being overseen by Doug Meyer, Chairman for the Events Committee for West Campus.Gould will be giving a short speech to students and faculty regarding service of veterans and the concept of “true heroes.” He will also be sharing his personal thoughts concerning what constitutes a hero and the use of the term in today’s society.
Meyer hopes the lecture will give students insight into some of the struggles our veterans face and highlight their importance.
He feels it is necessary to “acknowledge the sacrifices they (veterans) have made for us so we can enjoy our liberties as Americans.”
Veterans Day honors veterans of the United States Armed Forces and is celebrated on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that brought an end to World War I.
The historic event took place at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the same time that this event will commence.
This lecture is open to all students and faculty wishing to attend.
