On February 11, Wisconsin was changed. On that day Governor Scott Walker introduced the Budget Repair Bill, which since has had all of Wisconsin in an uproar. This bill officially strips Unions of collective bargaining rights, which ultimately deprives them of a voice. For the past 50 years, collective bargaining rights have been an essential part of keeping union workers able to express their wants and their needs, and without this, the unions are ineffective. After weeks of protests, no change has been made. This means that collective bargaining has officially been done with. Public workers are being silenced, and it is, frankly speaking, absolutely absurd. If the honest hardworking people of the unions are being pushed into the shadows, then where will it stop? Scott Walker has been caught red handed before. According to PolitiFact Wisconsin, Scott Walker said, “Civil service does not get altered by the modest changes we’re talking about here. Collective bargaining is fully intact. You’ve got merit hiring, you’ve got just cause for termination and for discipline. All those things remain.” It is obvious that this is not true. Collective bargaining is anything but fully intact. These unions are created for a reason, to give voices to the voiceless.
By having Walker as Governor, our communities are hurt in the worst way possible. A man who cares only for his agenda and no one else’s is overpowering the rights of descent, truthful people. So where do we go from here? The only way we have a real chance of changing this is if Scott Walker is taken out of office. Hopefully, we can make this happen and once again have justice in Wisconsin’s government.
