It’s countdown time once again for the reason that we are all here – to graduate! Whether someone is graduating from adult high school, getting a technical degree, a certificate, or an associate degree, it is an accomplishment worth being proud of.
The obstacles can be many: money, children, discrimination, domestic violence, sexual abuse, racism, and a host of other problems that wish to rob you of a successful career.
While some do quit, others persevere and continue against the current. Graduation day is most special for those who have overcome much and sacrificed everything.
We can be robbed of our possessions but not of our education. Many times life lures us to just being content with the status quo, but we fight it, we step on it, and we arise victorious with a diploma in hand.
Graduation day is only the beginning for some; obtaining a bachelor’s, master’s, or even a doctorate is the prize.
For those who have honed their craft or refined their trade – the community needs you. Others have given themselves to serving the public through human services, police work and nursing.
Just as fingerprints are one of a kind, our skill sets are unique to each one of us, and we can only be stopped by what we let stop us.
Let’s all enjoy our special day and reflect on those who have helped us achieve this honor, and come along side those who need our encouragement. One downtown Milwaukee and five Oak Creek campus students share their thoughts on the question: “What are your professional plans or goals after you graduate from MATC?”
