New meal options for students
The Campus Meal Plan (CMP), what is it? According to Food and Beverage Director Carrie Schoner, “The Campus Meal Plan is an affordable way to purchase meals on campus, that’s both convenient and easy. The Campus meal plan includes 25 meals per block and provides an entree, side and beverage and great value. It’s one of the first for a two-year commuter college; we actually had to model it against a four- year university meal plan because we could not find a two year college that offered a meal plan. And it’s the first in the state at a two-year campus.”
Schoner added, “It’s very convenient. Students don’t have to carry cash or a credit card. All they need is their student ID so it’s very convenient for them and I think over time, the students are really going to find the value.”
The cost of the CMP is $150 for 25 meals and that’s an estimated $175 value. Students can save up to 20% on meals’ retail price plus no sales tax. You must buy a minimum 25 meals, if you want to purchase more you can.
According to the MATC website, it will take up to two business days to activate your meal plan. You can use cash or credit card, or your financial aid to purchase your meals.
For cash and credit card, go to any campus Cashier office, request to purchase a block of meals, complete the necessary paperwork and pay for your block of meals.
If you don’t have the funds to make that purchase, there are other options. “Students can even use their Financial Aid to purchase a plan through the bookstore,” stated Schoner.
So, if you receive Financial aid, you can go to any campus bookstore for purchase of the Campus Meal Plan. You can check your meal balance at any Stormer Pass station on campus. The number of remaining meals will also be printed on your Café receipt.
Schoner added, “At present we probably have close to 100 individuals participating this fall. And that was our goal, to strive for at least a hundred participants. We are listening to feedback constantly from students, as we move forward. We are including more and more sides and dishes every day.”
