Tough season for soccer and volleyball teams

Jannette Gonzalez knows best when it’s time to defend, and she does it well, clearing the ball as it comes to the defensive line.

The week of Sept. 19 was  tough across the board for MATC sports. The men’s and women’s soccer teams and the women’s volleyball team were unable to notch their first win of the season.

The men’s soccer team matched up against Joliet Junior College on Sept. 21 and suffered a crippling 0-6 loss, making them 0-8 (0-6 Conference) overall. Obviously some changes need to be made if they want to improve on what has been a harsh season so far.

Andrea Garcia (5) viciously runs to defend the ball at midfield and manages to take possession seconds later. A well-fought game for both teams in the first half lead to a dramatic second half, but the Stormers fell Sept. 23 to Harper College, 9-0.

The women Stormers soccer team faced Harper College at home on Sept. 23 and lost 0-9. This added to their winless season of 0-6 (0-5 Conference) on the season. The men’s team, like the lady Stormers, will have to find some way to turn things around to get their first win before the season ends.

Lastly, the women’s volleyball team played two games last week.  First was against Concordia University JV at home where they fell 3 games to none, and second was against Joliet Junior College where they won one game, but ultimately fell 3 games to 1.

Their record on the season is 0-11 (0-6 Conference) and the team will work to end their 11- game losing streak.

While the records may show dim results for MATC sports, the future is untold and anything can happen in the remaining games.
