Irving gives tips on getting hired
Dr. Christopher Irving, educational consultant and founder of the Ceceilyn Miller Institute for Leadership and Diversity in America, a non-profit organization focused on leadership and diversity training, lit up MATC campuses on Sept. 27 and 28, with his high-energy seminars.
Bringing an exciting message of positive motivation and inspiration, Irving approached his seminar in a bit of an unconventional way. The first thing he did was make everyone in the audience introduce themselves to someone they didn’t know. He then had them discuss setbacks they had faced at MATC, and the goals they wished to achieve going forward.
Irving then brought five students up on stage and did mock job interviews with them. He highlighted what employers look for and what you should do to give yourself the best shot at the job you want. The points he emphasized were internships are very important to employers, and employers want specific examples of past work and educational experiences.
He also noted that a big problem for a lot of students entering the job field is their social media profiles. He pointed out that everyone needs to be very careful of what gets posted on their social media profiles because employers do look at those, and you cannot have pictures of yourself engaging in irresponsible or illicit activities.
The main point that Irving conveyed was that you only get one shot at life.
Maximize every opportunity you get, and the recipe to success is applying your skills and degrees to every opportunity that is laid in front of you.
