Lady Stormers handover the win
The MATC women’s basketball team opened up their season Nov. 1 against the Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks. After struggling in the first quarter, the lady Stormers were able to regroup and put together a strong second quarter, scoring 26 points. Outscoring the Skyhawks by ten points and giving them a three point leading heading into halftime. The first half highlights for the Stormers include double digit scoring from Mikaiah Jones-Cogwell and Monica Thompson. Kennedy Kuykendall led the Skyhawks in scoring the first half with 14 points.
Unfortunately, the Stormers were not able to keep the pace in the second half, scoring only 19 points in the second quarter. Their downfall came with all the turnovers they allowed. After the 63-54 lose, Coach Casey stated the obvious when asked about the game, “You can’t win a game when you turn the ball over 30 times.”
If the Stormers can figure out how to take care of the ball they have the tools to put together a winning season.
