MATC students and staff heard the loud rumbles of planes zooming over the Downtown Campus today. It’s all part of preparations for this weekend’s Air & Water Show on the shores of Lake Michigan. The show features the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. Their pilots fly Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornets, which can reach speeds just under Mach 2. That’s almost twice the speed of sound or about 1,400 mph. Super Hornets can ascend 30,000 feet per minute.
The Air & Water Show will be held this Saturday and Sunday along Lake Michigan, from Bradford Beach to McKinley Beach. The water show will be held both days from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The air show takes place both days from noon-4 p.m.
