The District Student Government Association (DSGA) is reshaping their constitution to better involve the MATC student population, increase representation of all cultures, and streamline the efficiency of the organization. Students overwhelmingly approved the changes in a vote this week. Voting ended on Friday, April 12 at noon with 97% in favor of the changes and 3% rejecting them.
This is the first amendment to the DSGA constitution in five years. Along with creating a more inclusive and engaging organization, the amendments include a name change and completely removing the word “government” from the association. The idea is to lower the barrier of entry, increase incentives for participation, and allow students of MATC to have more say in what their campuses look like.
Students received an email with the subject line “IMPORTANT: DSGA Constitution Changes VOTE” to find out more information on the changes. You may have seen Lt. Governor Lizzy Calixto, me (Chairperson Warren Murphy), or any number of DSGA members tabling to raise awareness for the vote this past week.
