The District Student Association (DSA)–formerly known as District Student Government Association (DSGA)–was successful in reshaping their organization to better involve the MATC student population, increase representation of all cultures, and streamline the efficiency of the organization. Students overwhelmingly approved those changes to the organization’s constitution in a vote that ended on Friday, April 12 at noon with over 97% in favor of the changes and 3% rejecting them.
This is the first amendment to the constitution in five years. Along with creating a more inclusive and engaging organization, the amendments include a name change and completely removing the word “government” from the association. The idea is to lower the barrier of entry, increase incentives for participation, and allow MATC students to have more say in what their campuses look like.
DSA is currently beginning the process of electing the next wave of DSA Officers. Students will be encouraged to campaign around campus starting on Monday, April 22 and concluding on May 10. The official voting ballot will be sent out via email on May 6 at noon, and the final tally will be taken on May 12 at 11:59 p.m.
The positions that will be open for the election will be as follows:
- Chairperson
- Vice Chairperson
- Secretary
- Budget Chairperson
- Parliamentarian
- Chief Marketing Officer
- Engagement and Events Coordinator
- Diversity & Belonging Officer
- Student District Board Representative
To qualify for DSA you must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
All students will receive an email with the position descriptions and responsibilities. We encourage anyone who is interested to participate in the election process. If you have any questions, reach out to the current DSA Chairperson Warren Murphy ([email protected]) for assistance.
