You can save time, money, and graduate quicker by earning credits for things you already know and/or transferring in previous exam and college credits! By transferring in credits, you can attend MATC to complete your degree without repeating previous coursework.
The Credit for Prior Learning and Experiences (CPLE) department works with you to award college credits by exploring assessment options for skills obtained outside of a traditional classroom and by evaluating your previous exam scores (AP, IB & CLEP exams) and college transcripts to determine courses that will transfer in.
Here are the steps to get your exam scores and college transcripts evaluated by CPLE:
- Apply to MATC
- Submit your official scores and/or college transcripts to MATC’s Admissions department. If you’ve attended more than one college, submit official transcripts from each school to:
MATC, Admissions
700 West State Street
Milwaukee, WI 53233
- Evaluation – Once you’ve completed Admissions and we receive your documents, CPLE will automatically evaluate which general education course(s) will transfer in. Technical studies courses require the review of lead faculty instructors and may require additional documentation.
- Check your email – After evaluation, you’ll receive an email to review the updates made on your program plan
What does CPLE consider while evaluating official exam scores?
- MATC accepts certain exams and only transfer in credits that apply towards your program plan
- Students must obtain a specific score on exams to receive credit
- You can find scoring and course equivalency information here (link)
What does CPLE consider while evaluating college transcripts?
- MATC accepts credits from regionally accredited post-secondary institutions
- CPLE only transfers in credits that apply towards your program plan
- Previously earned credit’s course outcome summary must be 80% equivalent to MATC’s
- Final grades received must be a “C” or higher to transfer. Specific program requirements supersede this requirement. Time limits may apply based on course and/or program requirements
