The third floor stairwell is in the background on the left; the student meeting room is behind the glass on the right hand side; games, study tables and comfy chairs are in the foreground in this picture of the Student Lounge and Rec Center in the S Building. The Convenience Store is located behind the meeting space and is not visible from this angle.

Behold, you are traveling through the MATC Downtown Campus S Building and find yourself on the third floor. There, you notice the great cafeteria. A place for all to eat and enjoy their meals. But, as you continue to explore the third floor, your eyes lay upon a new wonder.

A spacious area, decorated with enticing oriental hues burst out from the cool blue, rich brown walls behind them hinting at a dose of a kaleidoscope dream. Cozy red and blazing orange shades catch the eye as you coast across the space. Cushioned lounge seats that elevate total relaxation in the body, reclining your posture with open, beautiful views of the city. Comfortable, expensive-looking furniture brings the MATC community a new home of service, awaiting your individual time. This large space is specifically hand-crafted for you. Tranquility is not the only feeling that this lounge provides. A compelling, incredible game of pool and foosball is anticipating your entertainment. Zen vibes with glossy lighting, exciting colors during every season with wide screen television are here for your happiness.

If all of this pleasure is making you hungry, stroll into the Student Rec Lounge’s unique, cafe-style convenience store area. Walking towards the lounge, the store is located on your left side, right before you enter the rec zone. The front doors have enhanced handles to ensure the safety of all guests entering the store. Inside, MATC students and staff will be provided with grab and go items for their desired satisfaction.

Last, and most importantly, this unwinding space has been built by dedicated construction workers who deeply ensure the safety of all students and staff. Sensors have been installed in the ceilings to benefit the visually impaired. These sensors send signals to aid with alertness and caution to protect blind and visually impaired students from any potential danger.

If I were to best describe the feelings the new Student Rec Lounge gave me, it would be an area of total relaxation. A classic experience where students and staff can find enjoyment in their downtime. It’s a student lounge luxury, where peace and enlightenment are encountered.

Currently, construction crews are doing HVAC work. The new heating, air conditioning and ventilation system will ensure the space is warm in the winter and cool in the summer and that hot and cold air does not escape through the floor to ceiling windows on the north and south sides of the space.

Lounge Opening Date: Beginning of Fall 2025 Semester. (There is currently no specific date. We will update the opening once that information is released.)
