(The following email was sent by Dr. Cruz to the MATC community at the end of May. With his arrival soon, we thought this was an opportune time to publish this.)
Dear MATC Community:
I am honored, humbled and excited to be joining you in July as the 11th president of Milwaukee Area Technical College.
My brief time with many of you in April made several things clear: Students are served by the mission of the college, employees believe in this mission and partners provide critical support to advance it. MATC is transforming lives, industry and the community on a daily basis. I know the college is a strong fit with my students-first philosophy and experience serving diverse students with a diverse team. After spending time during my career in Cincinnati, Dayton and St. Louis, I am looking forward to returning to the Midwest.
Just as Dr. Martin remains committed to you through her remaining time at MATC, I am committed to my current role as the president of Kendall Campus of Miami Dade College. You will hear more from me once I complete my service there in the coming weeks.
Until then, I am grateful to the MATC District Board for selecting me. I thank Dr. Martin for her leadership as president over the past decade and for continuing on through July 14 so I can move to Milwaukee with my family and begin July 15. I am also appreciative of the students, faculty, staff, administrators and community partners who took the time to meet with me and share their thoughtful reflections and important questions. I look forward to meeting more members of the MATC community in the weeks and months to come as we all come together to drive success for our students and create high impact in the communities we serve.
Go Stormers!
Sincerely,
Anthony Cruz, Ed.D.
