The Great MKE Playdate was held this week. The event was described by one of the volunteers as, “an event for kids and families to enjoy some fun and pick up some free goodies.” The Great MKE Playdate was part of the Great Milwaukee Block Party’s weeklong events (July 13-20) aimed at uplifting and celebrating Milwaukee.
The event was held on July 17 at 2435 N. 12 St. It was originally scheduled to be held at King Park, but was relocated after Samuel Sharpe’s death. (Video of the incident posted on JS online can be seen here showing that “Sharpe was armed with two knives and was moving toward another man, 26,….”Columbus, OH police officers ran to the location and “opened fire on him when he didn’t follow police commands to drop the knives.”)
