While the attention last week in Milwaukee was primarily focused on the Republican National Convention, there were protestors making their voices heard nearby as well.
On Thursday, July 18, protestors gathered to support Samuel Sharpe Jr. “Jah” and D’Vontaye Mitchell. The protestors approached the hard perimeter of the RNC. They were let through by police and able to stop in front of the Hyatt Hotel. They marched from Red Arrow Park to the Hyatt.
Mitchell was killed on June 30, outside of the Hyatt Hotel after being held down and restrained by security guards. Milwaukee police referred four charges of felony murder in Mitchell’s death to the district attorney. On Tuesday, July 16, police officers from Ohio shot and killed Sharpe. He and another Black man were arguing. Sharpe had two knives in his hands, refused to drop them and was shot and killed.
