Julia Child, a successful chef and author, once said, “The Measurement of achievement is not winning awards. It’s doing something that you appreciate, something that you believe is worthwhile.” That being said, it’s still an absolute honor to receive an award.
The MATC Times is thrilled to share that our Editor-in-Chief, Zanaia Joshua, has been nominated for the Associated College Press Reporter of The Year Award. Additionally, we have secured two nominations in the College Media Association Pinnacle Awards “design” category:
- Best Newspaper Page/Spread for a story which covered Dr. Martin’s Retirement – created by Graphic Designer Emma Turk and last year’s Editor-in-Chief D’Allen Davis.
- Best News Website Front Page Design – for this award our entire staff is nominated, because everyone contributed
The Times will receive the final results at the Fall National College Media Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, Oct. 30-Nov. 2. (We could not get an update in the paper before it went to press.) Regardless of the outcome, we recognize these nominations as a celebration of our team’s hard work and creativity.
I speak for everyone at the MATC Times when I say we are here because we believe in what we are doing, and we hope to serve as a true voice for the MATC student body. We are contributors and writers, we are photographers and illustrators, we are designers and editors, and everything in between. Each and every one of us puts a significant amount of time and effort into creating the paper, and it can be a thankless job. So, while we do this because we love it and have a passion for it, it sure is nice to see our hard work acknowledged. If you see Zanaia Joshua, D’Allen Davis, Emma Turk, or any of the Times members on campus, I encourage you to congratulate them on their nominations and hopefully, their awards.
