The Women’s Volleyball team won the NJCAA Region 4 Championship this weekend and move on to the NJCAA National Tournament. It’s the teams first-ever appearance in the national tournament in MATC’s history. The team was unranked and beat #8 ranked Sauk Valley Community College to win the NJCAA Region 4-Midwest District A Championship.
Coach Michel (Shel) DeLisle is excited about the team and its growth. “We hosted our first playoff match last year, but this year we have made a stronger team,” she said. Coach DeLisle has always been optimistic about winning, but the feeling is different because she believes that there are so many talented players. “I am very proud of the players and all of the records that this team has broken,” she said. The coach is thrilled at how far this team has come, especially when they are all together. “I do think that if we start strong and play consistently, we can hang with and defeat pretty much any team,” said Coach DeLisle.
The tournament begins Wednesday, November 20, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Go Stormers!
