Some people grow up knowing that a music career is what they want from the moment they can open their mouth. Then there are the people that find their love for music and performing later in their life. I recently got the opportunity to talk with Will Moseley, the 2024 American Idol Runner-Up, and ask him about his life, love of music, his new releases and more.
What did it mean for you to audition with an original song on American Idol and get a good response?
“It was very reassuring. You know when you have a friend listening to your music and you expect them to be honest on whether they hate it and want you to turn it off or they love it ,and you get confidence in what you are writing. It was kind of like that, but I skipped a step.”
Watching your American Idol audition I see that your dream growing up was always football, when did music become a dream?
“I started loving music when I went to college. I always loved music but I didn’t know music was going to be a part of my life in this way. I learned how to play the guitar, and it went from there.”
Mosley says he is putting biology on the back burner but it’s not a forgotten love. He does plan to pursue the field later as a plan B.
You are opening for Zac Brown Band on New Years Eve. How did that happen?
“Me and Zac have a mutual friend. When I was on American Idol, my friend and the band watched me perform. When the show was over, Zac got in contact with me through my friend and said they need an opener.”
I asked if Moseley had any role models in music but also in his life in general; he named singers like Luke Combs and Zac Brown along with a couple of other big names in the music industry.
So, I am a big Tik Tok fan and I noticed that you have a growing number of fans there. Is there anything you would want them to know about you? Anything you want to share?
“I am 100% a family person. My number one priority is my friends and family.”
Do you have any more original songs coming soon?
“Yes, we are releasing a couple songs soon. One is coming out December 6th and another on January 10th.”
Finally, do you have any advice for next year’s American Idol contestants?
“The only thing I can think of is…breathe. When you’re doing the show, you spend so much time rehearsing, practicing, worrying, and all the other little things that you can sometimes forget to breathe. Just breathe and let everything fall into place.”
It was really great getting to talk with Mr. Moseley. He is playing with Zac Brown’s Band in Atlanta on New Year’e Eve. I look forward to seeing him in Milwaukee at The Rave/Eagle’s Club on December 12, 2024 with Colin Stough You can get tickets here.
I will be writing a review of the show. If you don’t attend, you can read all about it. You can also look forward to hearing Will Moseley’s new songs coming out this month and the start of 2025.
