Region Champs!: MATC Stormers advance to the NJCAA Nationals!

The MATC men’s basketball team has made it to the NJCAA Divison II National Championship Tournament. The Stormers advanced after beating South Suburban College on March 8 with an 85-74 victory in the NJCAA Divison II Regional Final.

Game Highlights

In the second half, freshman Julian Valentine led the Stomers scoring effort with 12 points, while sophomores Antonio Foxwell and Cyrus Little each contributed 11 points. Matthew Hoarde added 8 points, and Owen Smith rounded out the effort with 5 points.

Congratulations to Head Coach Randall Casey

Head Coach Randall Casey was named the 2024-25 NJCAA Region 4 Coach of the Year! Coach Casey credited the team’s success to the player’s dedication to the program and unwavering commitment to its goals. Now in his 17th season as head coach at MATC, Coach Casey has an impressive record of 344-187.

Good luck, Stormers, let’s bring home the championship! Danville Area Community College in Danville, Illinois, will host the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament from March 17-22.

My name is Crystal Williams. I am a sports writer for the MATC Times and I joined the Times in the 2024/25 school year. I am majoring in the arts and planning on transferring to UW-Milwaukee for my bachelors in Journalism. I began having a passion for sports when I was 14-years-old, specifically football, and then later on baseball and basketball.
