Metro Milwaukee residents participated in a nationwide protest day known as People’s Veto Day. This was planned and organized by the Women’s March in Washington D.C and spread to other states. The protest was put together by citizens of America that feel outraged by the current executive orders that President Donald Trump has issued. This day was scheduled to be a day of protest to defend women’s rights, democracy, human rights and presumed attacks on the Constitution.
The Milwaukee participants stood outside the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse located on 517 E. Wisconsin Ave. What was planned to be a day full of exercising the freedom to assemble turned into a day of celebration as Wisconsinites showed up to the polls on April 1 and voted Susan Crawford into the Wisconsin Supreme Court. According to MATC Times photographer Dwight Willamson, who attended the event, participants were laughing and mingling amongst one another and were proud to be there after Crawford’s big win.
