If you are trying to watch your spending this summer, join me in ‘taking a hike’ to some free hidden gems in the Milwaukee area. If you’re into history, check out Part 1 of my ‘Take a hike’ series where I visited a local cemetery steeped in Milwaukee history.
In Part 2, join me hiking to some amazing murals around the city. Whether it’s a beautiful depiction of former MATC student, Sade Robinson, who was brutally murdered earlier this year on the side of Pizza Shuttle (1827 N. Farwell Ave.) or Heart & Sol at 6th & Wells Street which portrays the optimism for our city’s future through its illustration of two girls, symbolizing unity and strength, there are a variety of outdoor landscapes you can visit. There’s also the paletero mural at Heavy Hitters (415 S. 3rd St.) that shows the paletero pushing his cart of sweet frozen treats throughout the city and there’s always a cool vibe at Black Cat Alley, an outdoor art gallery in a private alley located behind the Oriental Theatre on Milwaukee’s East Side. You can find a map to mural locations at this link.
