Yesterday, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson read a proclamation recognizing the significance of the 60th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the 50th anniversary of the Language Minority Provision of 1975 throughout the city of Milwaukee. The commemoration happened at Ezekiel Gillespie Park (2478 N 14th St). The Voting Rights Act banned racial discriminatory practices in voting, including literacy tests.
