MATC’s athletic department unveiled a new space designed for student-athletes and coaching staff. It’s located across from the current athletic office, by the bridge from the S Building Student Lounge to the M Building.
Assistant Athletic Director Travis Mrozek says the area at the Downtown Campus, will provide room for students and coaches to grow and develop.
“It gives us the opportunity for the head coaches of our program to have an office space to call their own,” he said. Mrozek noted that coaches previously had to share a small office. Now, the new space will serve as both an athletic lounge for student-athletes and a multi-purpose area.
“This space will be used to hold team study tables, team meetings, and film work,” Mrozek said.
The department believes the new area will help coaches and student-athletes build stronger connections, which has been shown to enhance academic performance and improve retention.
“We were struggling to find a space to host a study table for athletes and rooms where we could watch film,” Mrozek said. He believes the new space will eliminate the need for teams to “bounce around all over campus.”
Unexpected delays in renovations have pushed the completion date, but Mrozek hopes the athletic space will be ready during the fall semester.
