The women’s basketball team is spending its off-season teaming up with the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, giving back to families in need.
The Milwaukee Diaper Mission
The Milwaukee Diaper Mission was created by Meagan Johnson and her cousin Jessica Syburg in 2020. The entire mission of the nonprofit organization was to provide free diapers, feminine hygiene products, and wipes to low-income families. They’ve distributed more than 78,000 baby wipes, cloth diapers, and cloth pads. They also partner with a variety of organizations that support families.
Mariah Antetokounmpo, wife of Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, has also partnered with the Milwaukee Diaper Mission. Inspired by their second son, she launched her own “The Maverick Diaper Mission” to continue to support families in need. “As a mom, I know firsthand how expensive it is to raise children and want to do what I can to support families, so they don’t have to decide between food or diapers for their baby,” she said.
Stormers Giving Back
The women’s basketball team spent two hours volunteering at a Cudahy warehouse, where both players and coaching staff were eager to assist in giving out supplies. Head coach Arom Murrell noted that many players were surprised by the amount of support that these community resources provided.
“This hands-on experience not only highlights what’s available, it also gives our players a firsthand look at how these operations run,” he said. Coach Murrell added that the team chose this initiative because the mission aligns with the team and the families they represent.
