It’s not all about winning awards, but we like it when we do. Being a part of the MATC Times is about so much more. We provide a voice for students on campus, a place to be connected to an amazing group of students, an opportunity to learn and grow your skills, and to create work that could receive an award when compared to other two-year colleges across the country.
The MATC Times won four awards in October at MediaFest25. The nation’s largest media convention for professionals and college students was sponsored by: Associated Collegiate Press (ACP), College Media Association (CMA), and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).
The CMA awarded “Pinnacle Awards” at the convention. These are the organization’s flagship national honors that recognize the best student work in collegiate journalism, media production, and organizational excellence.
The MATC Times won two Pinnacle Awards:
- Third Place, General News Photo, Cierra P. Wilson (Times Photography Editor)
- Honorable Mention, Portrait, Darnell Bonner (former Times Contributor)
The Times staff also placed in the top 10 in the national ACP “Best of Show” competition. Our website received eighth place and our paper received ninth place.. These collegiate journalism awards strengthen student’s resumes and portfolios by providing a badge of quality for their work.
MediaFest25 was held October 15-18 in Washington, D.C. It featured over 200 sessions and workshops, as well as opportunities to network. There was also a “Freelance Central” space dedicated to freelance journalists. The event was attended by student journalists, educators and journalism professionals.
