Are you a student having a difficult time, or maybe even a crisis situation with your heating or electrical costs this season? If so, help is on the way! Energy Assistance (EA) will be setting up tables to help students receive information about the program.
Students can stop by to find out about applying on February 18 at the Downtown, West Allis and Oak Creek Campuses.
Amy Waldman, a representative for Energy Assistance, will be holding a three-day enrollment session at these campuses only.
The EA program provides help with the cost of heating for students from October 1 to May 15.
Applicants’ energy grants will be determined by the number of family members in a household, the cost of energy this year and their total income level.
To qualify, students must meet the criteria of 150% of poverty level, which is determined from a prior, three-month window of
the applicant’s average monthly income.
If qualified, the EA program will submit a one-time payment directly to the utility company and in some cases, a fuel provider, on behalf of the student’s utility expenses for the October to May heating season.
Students who are unable to attend one of the three campuses on February 18 may be able to arrange a Saturday appointment.
