Freshmen make up new look of basketball team
A considerably large influx of new additions and a mere three sophomores will make up the men’s Stormers basketball team as they prepare to bounce back from an exciting but somewhat disappointing up-and-down 2013-14 season.
Last season saw a losing streak of eight games end with a winning streak of six games followed by a first-round playoff loss to the College of DuPage.
The team announced the signings of incoming freshmen Evan Burlingame and Draylen Fair on the Stormer’s website in June.
Burlingame, a 6’7” forward from Hartland, and Fair, 5’8” point guard from Beloit, will be joined by guards Kamar Marshall (Chicago), Maher Hakim (Madison), Evan Melchior (Green Bay), William Gould (Chicago), Allante Washington (Indianapolis), Jaquan Holiday (Chicago), DeAntrae Woods (Racine), John Peters (Green Bay), Vincent Preyer (Panama City, Fla.), guard/forwards Devin Gray (Green Bay), Kevin Kellner (Houston, Texas), and Andre Neal (Beloit) as fresh faces in their first year of eligibility.
Austin Dunbar, 6’4” forward, has retained his freshmen status after joining the team last year.
Forward/center Steve Stovall, Jr. (Milwaukee) is the major returnee and will need to continue the flashes of dominance he displayed in his 14-point, 10-rebound effort against Harper College and the 11 points, eight rebounds he contributed versus Rochester Community College. Other sophomores include guards Derrick Cook (Milwaukee) and guard/forward Melvin Brown (Milwaukee).
The Stormers will play home games against the College of Lake County on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and the Concordia University of Wisconsin junior varsity team on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
Home basketball contests are played in the Reiman Gymnasium at Alverno College. Attendance is free.
