MATC Downtown campus elects new president, Elva Marie Soto.

Campuswide elections for Student Government have taken place for the spring semester. The Downtown Milwaukee campus Student Government body elections were held on Feb. 4 and 5.
Elva Soto, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapist Assistant program student, was elected president. Soto became interested in Student Government after seeing flyers and decided to become engaged when she saw all the fun things Student Government does for students.
Soto previously served as vice president but chose to move up as a personal challenge. “I thought it would be a great experience,” Soto explained, “and help get me out of my shell. It has really helped me with organization.”
One of her goals during her time in office is to inspire her colleagues to do their best. “I would like to make my fellow Student Government members step up,” Soto said, “and show them that we all have the skills to do each job in the office.
Soto is prepared to hear from all students about what can make their time at MATC more worthwhile. “We do surveys and we have a suggestion box and comment box,” Soto stated.
“We’re always looking for new ideas and problems to fix at the campus or anything that can help our students.”
