Davis Family Band
On Feb. 19, the Davis Family Band gave us a taste of wonderful music and soul food.
I was given an opportunity to actually interview the head of the band, Gregory Davis, which I later learned was the father of the three gentlemen in the band, and a devoted husband to the vocalist Ollie. Mr. Davis expressed his love for music, family and his community.
He stated that the band had been around since 1988. As time passed, the band grew stronger with strong family values and love.
Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis, and the youngest son, Artemas, attended MATC. Mr. Davis graduated from MATC in Computers and Technology. Mrs. Davis graduated from MATC in Business.
The band was named after the family.
The Davis Family Band consists of five close-knit family members. The oldest son is Andre, who is the bass player; the middle son, Arron, plays the piano; and Artemas plays the saxophone. Mr. Davis’ eyes lit up as he spoke highly about giving back to his community. Mr. Davis stated, “It is an honor to be here today.” Before closing the interview, Mr. Davis was asked a question: If he was moving on to another hobby besides music, what encouraging words would he leave? Mr. Davis stated that music should be a part of who we are in our everyday lives. Music should be allowed to express who we are and how we feel. He smiled and said that music is our path through stress in our everyday lives, and it should be used to refresh us for a new start.
