MATC offers men’s and women’s tennis teams starting this fall
MATC will be offering men’s and women’s tennis teams starting in fall 2017. “This will provide our students another collegiate opportunity to continue their careers, both athletically and academically,” Athletic Director and Coach Randall Casey said.
The women will play in the fall and the men will play in the spring. Both teams will be coached by Richard Monroe.
Home games will be held at the Marquette Helfaer Tennis Stadium and Recreation Center and admission will be free to all MATC students.
The teams will compete in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III level as an independent team.
MATC President Vicki Martin said at a press conference on June 1, “We are excited to add men’s and women’s tennis programs to the athletic offerings for our students. The staff of our athletic department is committed to teaching the fundamental value that hard work and persistence lead to success on the court, in the classroom and throughout their lives. We look forward to partnering with area high schools, tennis clubs and the Hurivs/ADAMM Education Foundation to build successful programs.”
Casey stated, “The athletic department is excited about the addition of tennis to our department. It is a great opportunity and we can’t wait to put our first team on the court.”
MATC currently offers seven other sports that compete in the North Central Community College Conference (N4C).
