MATC ‘s Downtown Campus was closed for two days during the first week of the 2023/24 fall semester.

The campus was closed on Wednesday, August 23, due to the Republican presidential primary debate taking place across the street at Fiserv Forum. Students and staff had a lot of time to prepare for that event because of the advanced notice.

However, today’s closing of the Downtown Campus was more of an unexpected event. The campus was closed “due to weather and its impact on cooling systems,” according to information from the Department of Marketing and Communications that was sent to students and staff on Wednesday night at 9 p.m.

The closing notice also stated, “College leadership takes closing a campus seriously and we make closing decisions considering the safety and security of all students and employees. We expect that the Downtown Milwaukee Campus will reopen on Friday, August 25.”

MATC’s website notes that it uses the Rave Alert system “to provide emergency and school closing alert messages to students and employees via text, voice and email messages.” The contact information for students and staff is transferred from the college to the Rave system.
