Jim Nance, Times Editor in Chief
I first joined the Times in 2012. Starting as a novice reporter gave me the opportunity to explore MATC and discover many fascinating facts about the college. At my orientation, I heard from Bob Hanson and the current editor in chief, Wayne Miller; their presentation inspired me to at least come to one of the meetings and challenge myself while attending classes. With the guidance and proper criticism, I was able to harness my writing skills for a newspaper and even find my niche in generating a flow in delivering my stories.
Now as editor in chief, I’m in my second and graduating year of leading the award winning team once again. Our staff is more than just a group of members banding together to get news to the campus; we’re a team. We cohesively find ways to make our difference work for the paper. They help me broaden my understanding of the student life through their experiences, as we collaborate to find a true voice of the college. On countless days, I could recall the events that we’ve covered around the community and how they trust my leadership to produce their final product. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than knowing I am trusted and my team can depend on me to be there for them.
The Dream Team has been created, but I am always looking for new members to add to our team to take this journey with us. You’ll find that I am humble and down-to-earth. You’ll always find me the office and taking time for my team is what I’m here for. The experience here at the Times will always be with me. Not just in the archive of stories, but the people who came to me and shared something as simple as smile with me. My life is constantly bringing me great opportunities, so stay tuned and follow me on my journey.
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
