Accommodation office offers tools to succeed
Many of us have different needs in life. When it comes to education, there’s a need to ensure that every student receives the kinds of benefits and opportunities that other students receive.
But what if a student has a learning disability, or a physical disability that inhibits learning or note taking. Where does a student with these needs go? The answer, for MATC students, is the office for Student Accommodation Services.
In the accommodations office, students with needs ranging from spatial requirements to visual, physical or other needs are given the tools to help ensure their time at MATC is spent successfully. The office offers work spaces that allow privacy for students who require a separate test environment for exams or quizzes. Computers are also available for use, as well as assistance from one of the many tutors in the office.
In addition to in-office assistance, students are given forms that they can send to their instructors in order to ensure that they too are aware of any accommodations the student may need in class.
The office offers students some gadgets such as the smartpen that allows students to record in-class notes and verbal discussions.
For any students interested in utilizing these services, the Downtown Milwaukee campus office for Student Accommodation Services is located in Room C219. Be sure to have all information regarding your needs as a student as well as a list of the classes you are taking that semester.
The office strives to aid any student who feels they are in need of assistance, for each student wants to have a successful semester.
