DiFranco engages crowd at Turner Hall

With a small frame but large mind, Ani DiFranco graced Turner Hall April 8. DiFranco’s guitar swelled, but didn’t swallow her vocals.

Her Jewel-esque music soothed the crowd. She exclaimed, “You’re my favorite team, my favorite crowd. I’m proud of you.”

DiFranco, a folksinger and songwriter, has been singing for more than 20 years and has released more than 20 albums. Even though her music mostly incorporates folk, DiFranco also performed songs with soft rap and rock. She has reached her music across genres since the beginning of her career.

Righteous Babe record label is a creation of DiFranco, which allows her creative freedom.

She expressed more than her music at the concert, referencing politics. She claimed, “Throw evil away,” and said that “we’re the most incarcerated nation on earth. We can change it.”

The audience was engaged, although rather stationary. They did sing along with the song “Angry Anymore.” And near the end couples started dancing.
